Two year study of bees in wildlife clearing and adjacent Mesic Red Oak Northern Hardwood Forests of the Merck Forest and Farmland Center. Bee bowls were deployed at 15 sites in early May of 2020 and 2021. Sites were either at the edge of wildlife clearings or at predetermined distances from these clearings within the Mesic Red Oak Northern Hardwood Forest natural community.

Survey locations were pre-determined using QGIS and a natural community map of Merck Forest and Farmland Center. Three sites were placed on the edge of wildlife clearings, 3 at 75 meters from these clearings, 4 at 150 meters, and 4 at >300 meters within the forest.
All sampling occurred within, or adjacent to, Mesic Red Oak Northern Hardwood Forests at Merck Forest and Farmland Center. All sampling was done in May, before spring leaf out (canopy closure).
14 sites were surveyed once in 2020 and once 2021. Surveys consisted of 15 bee bowls (5 yellow, 5 white, 5 blue) that were deployed for 24 hours on a warm and clear day.
All determinations were done by Spencer Hardy, Joan Milam, and Michael Veit
